Challenges
- Extend the services of strategically complex, legacy underwriting platform to different profit centers/business units
- Need for scalable infrastructure to support an average of 900 bookings with ~1000 transactions, including Renewal, Mid-term Endorsements, etc.
- Automate the provisioning and maintenance of applications for different environments across business units, keeping in view performance improvement using CI/CD.
Solution
- Built non-production environments with WebSphere7 and Oracle RDS DB setup for underwriting applications on AWS.
- Built DevOps process through Jenkins. Jenkins leveraged to initiate configuration, validate (Chef outputs), checkout, build, deploy, run Sonar, Unit test cases, automation tests and publish results
- Orchestrated infrastructure provisioning, configuration, and scale using terraform and Chef scripts and cookbooks, to support increased velocity, to reduce development costs and accelerate feature releases.
Benefits
- The complete set up was achieved in 70 minutes. When done manually, it would take one week.
- This one-click setup included cloud infrastructure build, database setup and import, WebSphere installation and configuration, and application configuration
- Improved development processes for leaner time to market and cost, with improved code quality
- Secondary infrastructure support for increased velocity to reduce development costs and accelerate feature releases.
- Improved end-user performance and infrastructure scale, especially during peak usage
